Generation Y Voters' Experience

Updated: 9 August 2013

The Generation Y Survey Team is conducting research into the electoral experience of Generation Y voters and their engagement with the AEC's election advertising throughout the election campaign.

One of the AEC's ongoing challenges is to encourage and build electoral participation, particularly among younger voters. Generation Y (the current cohort of young, voting age adults) has been identified as receiving and processing information in a different manner to previous generations. Therefore, this project is looking at the AEC's current methods of information delivery to determine if these are reaching Generation Y, and to discover their preferred way of receiving election–related information.

The Gen Y Voter Experiences survey series consists of four surveys which are designed to understand personal experiences and opinions of members of Generation Y in relation to AEC advertising material, voting services and their experiences of the 2013 federal election.

The objective of the survey series is to examine the outreach and personal impact of AEC's public awareness campaigns and strategies on Generation Y during the 2013 federal election period; and to identify emerging needs in electoral support.
