Media attendance at AEC venues

Members of the media must call the AEC media team prior to attending a polling place or counting centre.

If a media representative turns up at a polling place or counting centre without obtaining prior permission from the AEC, they may be refused entry. Media representatives who fail to follow the below guidelines may also be asked to leave.

After 6pm

The AEC's focus after 6pm on voting night is to count the votes. Media representatives who turn up to a polling place after 6pm or an AEC counting centre will be turned away.

Identified opportunities for counting footage may be pre-organised with voting-night broadcasters directly to enable those broadcasts to profile the activity underway at key intervals.
