The inquiry will commence at 10am on 7 October 1999 at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Hearing Room Five, Level 5, 55 Market Street, Sydney. If necessary, the inquiry will continue on 8 October 1999.

Interested persons or organisations who wish to appear at the inquiry should contact the office of the Australian Electoral Officer for New South Wales on (02) 9375 6302.

What is the augmented Electoral Commission?

The augmented Electoral Commission for New South Wales consists of the Chair of the Australian Electoral Commission (the Hon. Trevor Morling QC), the Electoral Commissioner (Mr Bill Gray), the non-judicial Commissioner (Mr Bill McLennan, Australian Statistician), the Australian Electoral Officer for New South Wales (Ms Frances Howat), the Surveyor-General of New South Wales (Mr Don Grant) and the Auditor-General of New South Wales (Mr Bob Sendt).

Why is an inquiry being held?

On 26 February 1999, the Australian Electoral Commission directed a Redistribution of House of Representatives Electoral Divisions in New South Wales.

What happens after the inquiry?

After it has considered the objections and comments, the augmented Electoral Commission will make a proposed Redistribution. If the augmented Electoral Commission's proposal is significantly different from that of the Redistribution Committee, the augmented Electoral Commission will invite further objections.

Final Determination of Electoral Divisions

Having considered all initial objections and comments, and any further objections, the augmented Electoral Commission will make a final determination of boundaries.
