New England by-election – voting from overseas

Updated: 27 October 2017

Participation in the New England by-election overseas will only be available via postal voting. There will be no overseas voting centres.

Early voting in Australia

If you are leaving Australia after Tuesday 14 November 2017 and will still be overseas on Saturday 2 December 2017, you can vote in person before you leave.

Early voting has commenced and will be available until Friday 1 December. Early voting locations and opening hours are available now.

Postal voting from overseas

If you are already overseas or leaving Australia before Tuesday 14 November 2017 and won’t be in Australia on by-election day, 2 December 2017 you will need to apply for a postal vote to be sent to you at an overseas address. You can apply for a postal vote online. Please apply as quickly as possible, as this will give us the maximum amount of time to process your application and send you your ballot paper.

I am unable to vote while overseas

If you know that you will be unable to complete a postal vote while you are overseas, you should complete an Overseas Notification Form and return it to the AEC.

Being overseas is a valid reason for not voting.
