Don't leave it to the last minute

The federal election is fast approaching and the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) wants your support in getting Australians ready to vote. It won't take much of your time but it will make a big difference.

Currently, there are almost 1.4 million eligible Australians missing from the electoral roll of which half a million are young Australians aged 18–24 years. There is every chance that you know some of these missing voters, or you could even be one yourself.

The AEC is encouraging the whole community to join in and spread the Don't leave it to the last minute message as part of our nationwide effort to motivate all eligible Australians to be ready to vote in the 2013 federal election.

To be ready to vote you need to make sure your name is on the electoral roll. Enrolling is quick and easy to do online and it only takes a few minutes to complete. So the message is simple – don't leave it to the last minute, enrol now.

A message from the Electoral Commissioner, Ed Killesteyn:

"A healthy democracy is one in which all eligible Australians exercise their right to vote. The first step, before you can vote, is making sure your name is on the electoral roll.

"The AEC is ready to run the federal election – the largest peace time event in Australia – and now we just need to make sure every eligible Australian is ready to vote and to have their say.

"Whatever you do – whether it is putting up some posters or sending out a message to enrol to vote – you will have played a part in spreading the enrolment message and making sure every eligible Australian is enrolled and ready to vote at the 2013 federal election."

The AEC has produced a kit of resources below that you can use to promote enrolment to people you know. A separate tailored kit of materials is also available for workplaces and sporting clubs.
