Public Inquiry: Queensland Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal

The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, The Hon. Peter Heerey QC, today announced the next stage in the public consultation for the proposed redistribution of Queensland’s federal electoral boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee for Queensland published its proposed redistribution on 24 July 2009. The period for lodging objections to the proposal ended on 21 August, and the period for lodging comments on objections closed on 4 September 2009.

As part of its consideration of the objections and comments on objections received, the augmented Electoral Commission will hold a public inquiry to consider submissions that people or organisations may wish to make concerning the objections made. The augmented Electoral Commission is the body which will make the final determination of the boundaries and names of the 30 electoral divisions for Queensland.

The dates, times and locations for the public inquiry are:

  • Cairns - 29 September 2009 (9am to 11am)
