Date set for Gippsland by-election
The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced that the by-election for the Division of Gippsland will be held on 28 June 2008.
The Divisional Returning Officer for Gippsland, Mr David Wakely, said that eligible Australian citizens must be correctly enrolled in order to vote in the by-election.
“All Australian citizens, 18 years and over living in the Division of Gippsland, are required to enrol and vote. If you’re not on the electoral roll, you must fill in an enrolment form and make sure you return it to an Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) office by 8 pm on Monday, 19 May 2008,” Mr Wakely said.
“If you’re already on the electoral roll but you need to update your address details you must complete an enrolment form and return it to an AEC office by 8 pm on Tuesday, 27 May 2008,” he said. “This is especially important for electors who have recently moved into the Division of Gippsland.”
Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au and are available at any Australia Post outlet or AEC office and now also at any Medicare office, Australian Tax Office or Centrelink office, and selected Rural Transaction Centres including those located at Heyfield, Bendoc and Cann River.
You can check your enrolment online on the AEC website or by phoning 13 23 26.
