The Australian Electoral Commission, in partnership with Triple J, is encouraging young people to enrol to vote at the Rock Enrol marquee at Shoreshocked on Saturday, 27 March 2004.

Rock Enrol is a youth enrolment promotion designed to raise awareness about the importance of enrolling and voting and encourage young people to enrol to vote.

Australian Electoral Commission staff will be on-hand at the Rock Enrol marquee at Shoreshocked to assist young people to enrol to vote for the first time and to encourage people who are already on the electoral roll to update their address details.

Assistant Commissioner, Brien Hallett, said that the Rock Enrol promotion has been very successful in getting more young people on the electoral roll and raising awareness of the need to be correctly enrolled to vote, particularly in an election year.

"This joint initiative between ABC's youth radio station Triple J and the Australian Electoral Commission has enabled us to receive over 3 700 new enrolments to date as part of our presence at the Big Day Out concerts and other youth festivals like Shoreshocked," Mr Hallett said.

"While overall most Australians are correctly enrolled, we know that the younger you are, the less likely you are to be correctly enrolled, and the Rock Enrol promotion at Shoreshocked represents another great opportunity for the Australian Electoral Commission to engage with young people," he said.

Shoreshocked 2004 is a free event held at St Leonard's Park, North Sydney as part of the Youth Week festival celebrating youth culture and designed for young people to showcase their talents to their peers and the community.
