Last day to get on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll

Australian Electoral Commissioner, Mr Andy Becker, today reminded Tasmanian ATSIC electors that they have until 5.00pm on 31st May to get on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll for the 2002 ATSIC Tasmanian Regional Aboriginal Council Election.
"To participate in the 2002 ATSIC Tasmanian Regional Aboriginal Council Election an elector must be on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll," Mr Becker said.
Enrolment forms, as well as information leaflets on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll, are available from all Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) Offices and Service Tasmania Shops.
Mr Becker urged all eligible electors to enrol on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll. "This is their opportunity to have their say and to participate in the ATSIC election process," he said.
A person is eligible to be included on this electoral roll if they: are an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander; will be 18 years of age on or before the date of the 2002 election; and live in the ATSIC electoral ward for which they wish to enrol.
"Anyone who enrols on the Tasmanian Indigenous Electors Roll will automatically be enrolled for federal and state elections," Mr Becker said.
Information for the 2002 ATSIC Tasmanian Regional Aboriginal Council Election can be obtained on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.auor by phoning 13 23 26.
