Media Advice 2001
9 October 2001
The AEC has noted a number of recent, incorrect media reports relating to the registration of Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party.
Some of these incorrect reports have indicated:
- that there is a problem with Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party's registration as a political party for federal elections;
- that the party has had to repay the AEC election funding and;
- that the AEC is associated with the current court case in Queensland involving Ms Hanson and Mr David Ettridge.
In fact there are no current issues associated with the federal registration of Pauline Hanson's One Nation as a registered party.
The party has not had to repay the AEC any election funding.
The AEC is not involved in the current court case in Queensland involving Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party.
The party is registered as a "parliamentary party" – that is, its registration is based on the fact that they have a member who is a member of the Commonwealth Parliament (Senator Len Harris). Therefore, Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party does not have to, nor has it ever had to, provide the AEC with a list of members.
Issues relating to the party's registration, with Queensland Electoral Commission, for (Queensland State elections) do not impact on the party's registration for federal elections
