Media Release 2000: Augmented Electoral Commission to hold Inquiry into Objections to Boundary Proposals

The Federal Redistribution 2000 WESTERN AUSTRALIA
The augmented Electoral Commission for Western Australia is to hold a public inquiry into the objections to the proposed redistribution of Western Australia into 15 federal Electoral Divisions.
The Electoral Commissioner, Mr Andy Becker, said "The augmented Electoral Commission for Western Australia recently met to consider the objections to the proposed redistribution, and agreed to hold a public inquiry into the objections before making a decision on the new federal electoral boundaries for Western Australia".
"A proposed redistribution of Western Australia's federal boundaries was published on 26 May 2000 after a period of public consultation, and a number of objections to the proposal were received by the Electoral Commission."
The inquiry will commence at 10am in Hearing Room 1 at the National Native Title Tribunal, 5th Floor, Federal Court Building, 1 Victoria Avenue Perth, on Monday 7 August 2000.
Interested persons or organisations who wish to appear at the inquiry should notify the office of the Australian Electoral Officer for Western Australia on (08) 9470 7299 by 2pm on Thursday 3 August 2000.
