Name Derivation:
Named after Bert Hinkler (1892–1933), pioneer aviator. Hinkler was the first person to fly solo from England to Australia in 1928.
Area and Location Description:
It covers an area of approximately 15 427 sq km along the coast from Bajool in the north to Childers in the south.
The main towns include Agnes Water, Bundaberg, Childers, Gladstone, Mount Morgan and Seventeen Seventy.
Products/Industries of the area:
Sugar, small crops (tomatoes, avocados, pineapples, melons, beans, zucchinis), Gladstone alumina plant (largest in world, producing 2 million tonnes each year), Gladstone power station, Bundaberg distillery, beef cattle, coal, fish and scallop industries and tourism.
