Australian Capital Territory redistribution

Round 3: Public consultation session

A public consultation session is being held into ideas and feedback on the proposed redistribution of federal electorates in the Australian Capital Territory. The proposed boundaries and names of electorates were outlined in the Redistribution Committee’s proposed redistribution published on 13 March 2026.

Canberra Session
Date: Friday 15 May 2026
Starting time: 9:30 am AEST
Address: Hub Civic Quarter, Ground Floor
68 Northbourne Ave, Canberra ACT 2601

During the consultation session, individuals or organisations may address the augmented Electoral Commission for the Australian Capital Territory on any matter raised in an idea on the proposed redistribution or feedback on ideas to the proposed redistribution. Participants will be given up to 5 minutes to present.

When addressing the augmented Electoral Commission regarding the electorate boundaries in the proposed redistribution, it is recommended that members of the public consider the redistribution and projected enrolment quotas, as these form the two key elements that underpin the redistribution.

It is strongly recommended those wishing to appear register their attendance before 5 PM AEST Thursday 14 May 2026.

For all those who wish to present and are unable to attend in person, opportunity will be given to those who register in advance to present by phone. Please email: FedRedistribution-act@aec.gov.au

When registering with the Australian Capital Territory redistribution team please remember that your name, contact details and the topics you wish to present will be requested. These details will be used for contact purposes and to inform the augmented Electoral Commission of your subject matter.

Attendees are welcome to participate by presenting or by observing. Those who have not registered in advance will be able to do so on the day. If you are not attending in person, your participation will be limited to your scheduled phone presentation. Further information on what to expect can be found in the below section "How will a public consultation session operate".

A public consultation session is an opportunity for the public to speak directly to the members of the augmented Electoral Commission and express their views on the proposed redistribution. Members of the public are invited to speak for up to 5 minutes, or they may just wish to attend to witness others. Online registration to attend in advance of the session is strongly encouraged, however, those wishing to register on the day will also be able to do so. The time the consultation session will end depends on the number of participants appearing on the day.

Please note that the augmented Electoral Commission will not be presenting on the Redistribution Committee's proposal and will generally not ask or respond to any questions during the session. This is opportunity for the public to speak. All presentations made will be transcribed and made publicly available after the augmented Electoral Commission's report is tabled in Parliament.

Audio-visual presentation facilities will not be provided at the public consultation session.

Those who unable to attend the session in person can register to present by phone and will be called at a pre-advised time, with 5 minutes to present. There will be no option to watch proceedings virtually.

A transcript will be taken of the public consultation session and will be published on this page at a later date.
