Australian Defence Force Reports from Electronic Voting Trial
The Electronic Voting Trial was a significant project for the AEC and the importance of examining all aspects of the trial was regarded as essential so that the information from the trial could be utilised to inform:
- the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters;
- the Government;
- other electoral authorities both nationally and internationally and;
- the voting public.

Evaluation of the remote electronic voting trial for overseas based Defence personnel electors at the 2007 Federal Election
The AEC’s People and Performance Branch required an independent evaluation of the electronic voting trials. An independent contractor was selected from tender and commenced evaluation about 6 weeks prior to the election. The evaluation period continued through the election and approximately 10 weeks beyond ensuring that all areas of the project were reviewed.
Remote Electronic Voting at the 2007 Federal Election for Overseas Australian Defence Force Personnel
This is a joint report between the AEC’s E-voting Team and Defence. The report describes the conduct of the E-voting trial and includes the development of legislation, the procurement process, the IT requirements, voter awareness and the implementation.
Audit And Certification Of A Remote Electronic Voting System For Overseas Australian Defence Force Personnel
The AEC wanted to ensure whatever systems were used for E-voting were robust and free from malicious code. The AEC selected BMM Australia from a tender process to assess and certify the software prior to use in the federal election.
