AEC policy on party registration decisions

Updated: 8 January 2018

The AEC is required under Part XI of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 to publish its reasons for decision when it refuses:

  • an application for registration of a political party,
  • an application for a change of registered party name, abbreviation or logo, or
  • an application to enter a party abbreviation in the Register of Political Parties.

The AEC has determined that to comply with this requirement it will publish its reasons for these decisions on its website.
