AEC policy on party registration decisions

Updated: 23 December 2010

The AEC is required under Part XI of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 to publish its reasons for decision when it rejects:

  • an application for registration of a political party,
  • an application for a change of registered party name or abbreviation, or
  • an application to enter a party abbreviation in the Register of Political Parties.

The AEC has determined that to comply with this requirement it will publish its reasons for these decisions on its website.
