2013 WA Civics and Citizenship Competition

Competition details

The Australian Electoral Commission and the Western Australian Electoral Commission are conducting a writing competition for WA secondary school students to highlight three significant electoral events occurring in WA in 2013.

The competition is split into two different age categories:

Entry

Students are required to submit writing pieces and the competition entry form to their school. One entrant will be chosen in each age category by each school. In choosing entrants, schools will consider the judging criteria listed below.

Schools will need to provide chosen entries with individual competition entry forms to the AEC by COB Friday 17 August 2013.

Judging

The judging panel will comprise of:

  • AEC officer – member of WA Executive Group
  • WA Electoral Commission member
  • Member of WA Education Reference Group

The following elements will be considered by the judging panel:

  • Accuracy of content and the use of valid examples in the development of the essay.
  • Comprehensive nature of the response, including originality of ideas.
  • Evidence of substantial reading and research.
  • References and bibliography in accordance with the guidelines contained at Attachment A.

Views communicated fluently and incorporate an introduction, clear paragraphs and a conclusion.

Prizes

Winning entrants will receive a new tablet computer and will be featured on the AEC's website.

All students who submit an entry to their school will receive a participation certificate.
