Virtual Tally Room a Better Bet on Election Night
8 October 2004
On election night 2004, public access to the National Tally Room will be limited due to space restrictions and it is estimated that people may have to queue outside for up to an hour.
The National Tally Room Manager, Mr Bill Chilvers advised today that the best place for people to find out about Election 2004 is from the comfort of their own home.
“The National Tally Room is not the only tally room that the AEC provides. As soon as the counting starts, people can access up-to-date and comprehensive results via the Virtual Tally Room on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au,” he said.
The Virtual Tally Room will start operating from about 5.30pm Canberra time and will provide the same results that will be available at the National Tally Room.
“So whether you watch the results unfold on network television or on your computer screen, the best place to see the results of Election 2004 is undoubtedly in the comfort of your home,” Mr Chilvers said.
