Media Release 2010: Reminder of deadlines for public submissions into the Victorian Federal Electoral Redistribution
1 April 2010
The Australian Electoral Officer (State Manager) for Victoria, Mrs Jenni McMullan, today reminded all interested individuals and organisations that written suggestions about the Victorian federal redistribution must be lodged with the Redistribution Committee for Victoria by 6pm next Friday 9 April 2010.
Mrs McMullan said the AEC provided information to assist individuals and organisations to develop their submissions. This information is available at www.aec.gov.au or from the Redistribution Secretariat on 03 9285 7177.
The suggestions received by the Committee will be available for public viewing on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au from Monday 12 April, and there is then a two week period during which written comments on the suggestions may be submitted.
Mrs McMullan noted that the deadlines are fixed and are unable to be extended.
Written suggestions and comments must be submitted to the Redistribution Committee for Victoria by 6pm Friday 9 April 2010, in one of the following ways:
- in person to 8th floor, Casselden Place, 2 Lonsdale St, Melbourne, VIC 3000
- by mail to GPO Box 768G, Melbourne, Victoria, VIC 3001
- by fax to (03) 9285 7169
- by email to vicredistribution@aec.gov.au
Comments on the suggestions will be accepted from 12 April until 6pm on Friday 23 April 2010.
"The redrawing of Victoria's federal electoral boundaries is a consultative process that is being undertaken to ensure that each of Victoria's electoral divisions has, as near as possible, the same number of electors," Mrs McMullan said.
The redistribution process is expected to be finalised on 17 December this year. Should a federal election be called before this date then the electoral boundaries for Victoria that applied at the 2007 federal election will be used.
