Redistribution of Federal Electoral Boundaries in Victoria. Public Inquiries.

The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, the Hon. Peter Heerey QC, today announced the next stage in the public consultation process for the proposed redistribution of Victoria's 37 federal electoral boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee for Victoria published its proposed redistribution on 30 July 2010. In response, 129 public objections and 40 comments on objections were submitted for consideration. These submissions are available for viewing on this website.

Interested individuals and organisations are now invited to personally address a public inquiry about the objections and comments on objections. The inquiry is being held by the augmented Electoral Commission for Victoria.

The augmented Electoral Commission is the body which will make the final determination of the boundaries and names of the electoral divisions. It comprises the Chairperson of the Australian Electoral Commission (the Hon. Peter Heerey QC), the Electoral Commissioner (Mr Ed Killesteyn), the Australian Statistician (Mr Brian Pink), the Australian Electoral Officer for Victoria (Mrs Jenni McMullan), the Surveyor-General of Victoria (Mr John Tulloch) and the Auditor-General of Victoria (Mr Des Pearson).

The dates, times and locations are:

  • Shepparton – Thursday 14 October 2010. (Commencing at 1pm.)

Those who wish to make oral submissions to the augmented Electoral Commission at the public inquiry in Melbourne or Shepparton should contact the Redistribution Secretariat to make the necessary arrangements.
