Media Release 2009: 88 149 enrolled to vote in Higgins by-election

A total of 88 149 Australians are eligible to vote in the Higgins by-election on Saturday 5 December 2009, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) Divisional Returning Officer for Higgins, Mark Strong announced today.

The electoral roll closed at 8pm, 9 November 2009 for the electoral Division of Higgins by-election.

It is compulsory for all electors enrolled in the electorate of Higgins to vote in the Higgins by-election, including electors aged over 70 years. This differs from Local Government elections in Victoria where voting is not compulsory for people over 70.
