Media Release 2009: Update your enrolment for the Higgins by-election

The deadline to update your enrolment in time for the upcoming Higgins by-election is Monday 9 November 2009, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) reminded electors in Higgins today.
"If you're on the electoral roll but need to update your details, you have until 8pm on 9 November to get a completed enrolment form to the AEC," AEC Divisional Returning Officer for Higgins Mark Strong said.
"If anyone has recently moved address they should check their enrolment details are up-to-date on our website or by calling 13 23 26."
Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the AEC website and are also available at any AEC office or Australia Post outlet, as well as at any Medicare, Centrelink, or Australian Tax Office.
"You can then take or post your completed enrolment form to the AEC office at: 1343 Malvern Road, Malvern VIC 3144 or fax it to (03) 9822 8001; or scan and email it to higgins@aec.gov.au," he said.
The deadline has already passed for eligible Australians living in the electorate who needed to enrol for the first time or re-enrol to vote in the Higgins House of Representatives by-election.
Election day for the electorate of Higgins House of Representatives by-election is Saturday, 5 December 2009. It is compulsory for all electors enrolled in the electorate of Higgins to vote in the Higgins by-election, including electors aged over 70 years. This differs from local elections in Victoria where voting is not enforced for people over 70.
