Successful Senate candidates elected in South Australia
The successful candidates in the Senate election in South Australia were determined today, following the completion of the Senate count by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
AEC State Manager for South Australia, Dr Christopher Drury said that the Senate count had involved the keying in of votes into a computerised system, and today an automated process was used to distribute preferences and determine the six elected candidates.
“As with all aspects of the count, the final process undertaken today was able to be observed by scrutineers representing candidates and parties.”
The successful candidates for the 6 Senate vacancies in South Australia in order of their election are:
- Don Farrell
- Cory Bernardi
- Nick Xenophon
- Penny Wong
- Simon Birmingham
- Sarah Hanson-Young
The election of the candidates will be declared at an event at 2pm on Tuesday 18th December 2007 to be held at the AEC state office, 9th floor, 1 King William Street, Adelaide. All candidates, members of the media and the public are welcome to attend.
