Successful Senate candidates elected in Queensland

13 December 2007

The successful candidates in the Senate election in Queensland were determined today, following the completion of the Senate count by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

AEC State Manager for Queensland, Ms Anne Bright said that the Senate count had involved the keying in of votes into a computerised system, and today an automated process was used to distribute preferences and determine the six elected candidates.

“As with all aspects of the count, the final process undertaken today was able to be observed by scrutineers representing candidates and parties.”

The successful candidates for the 6 Senate vacancies in Queensland in order of their election are:

  1. Ian Douglas MACDONALD (Liberal)
  2. John Joseph HOGG (Australian Labor Party)
  3. Sue BOYCE (Liberal)
  4. Claire MOORE (Australian Labor Party)
  5. Ron BOSWELL (The Nationals)
  6. Mark FURNER (Australian Labor Party)

The elected candidates will be declared at an event held in the Caribbean Room, Level 1, Christie Corporate Centre, 320 Adelaide Street Brisbane at 10am on Friday 14 December 2007.  All candidates, members of the media and the public are welcome to attend.
