Election day reminder – vote tomorrow!

23 November 2007

Australian electors are reminded that tomorrow, Saturday 24 November is election day.

This is the day that the majority of the over 13.6 million Australians on the electoral roll will be casting their vote, the Electoral Commissioner, Ian Campbell said.

“Tomorrow, 7,723 polling places around Australia will open for voting at 8.00am and will close at 6.00pm sharp,” he said.

The location of polling places are available from the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au or by calling the AEC on 13 23 26.

Mr Campbell said if electors cannot vote at their local polling place but are still within the same state or territory, they can cast an absent vote tomorrow at any polling place in the state or territory.

“However, if electors are in another state or territory, they can only vote tomorrow at an Interstate Voting Centre or AEC Divisional Office.  Alternatively electors who are interstate may still cast an early vote today at any Early Voting Centre.”

To find the location of voting centres, visit www.aec.gov.au or call 13 23 26.

It is compulsory that every Australian on the electoral roll at the close of rolls votes in the 2007 election.
