Today is the last day for people not on the electoral roll to enrol for the 2007 federal election

17 October 2007

Today is the deadline for eligible Australians not on the electoral roll to enrol to vote in time for the 2007 federal election.

Electoral Commissioner Ian Campbell said that eligible Australians only had until 8pm today to get on the electoral roll for the 2007 election, or they would miss out on their vote.

“If you’re not on the electoral roll you must fill in an enrolment form immediately and return it to an Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) office by 8pm Wednesday 17 October,” he said.

Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au and are available at any Australia Post outlet or AEC office and now also at any Medicare, Centrelink and ATO office and selected Rural Transaction Centres.

Mr Campbell said it is now too late to post back your enrolment form so you must take it to the nearest AEC office; or fax it; or scan and email it to your local AEC divisional office.

Details of AEC offices are available on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au or by telephoning 13 23 26.

“If you’re already on the electoral roll but need to update your address details, you have until 8pm on Tuesday 23 October to fill in an enrolment form and return it to the AEC,” Mr Campbell said.

“If you are unsure about where you might be enrolled you can check your electoral enrolment online at www.aec.gov.au or by ringing 13 23 26.”

All Australian citizens over 18 are required by law to enrol and vote.
