Media Release 2006: Public Inquiry - Queensland's Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal

The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, The Hon James Burchett QC today announced the next stage in the public consultation for the proposed redistribution of Queensland's Federal Electoral Boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee for Queensland published its proposed redistribution on 23 June 2006. The period for lodging objections to the proposal ended on 21 July 2006, and the period for lodging comments on objections ended on 4 August 2006.

As part of its consideration of the objections and comments on objections received, the augmented Electoral Commission will hold a public inquiry to consider any submissions that people or organisations may wish to make concerning the objections made. The augmented Electoral Commission is the body which will make the final determination of the boundaries and names of the 29 electoral divisions for Queensland.
