Electors in the Division of Cunningham will be electing their representative to the House of Representatives on polling day, Saturday 19 October 2002.

The key dates of the Cunningham by-election were announced today with the issuing of the writ by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The writ appointed the following key dates of the Cunningham by-election:

close of rolls	Monday 23 September 2002
close of nominations	Thursday 26 September 2002
polling day	Saturday 19 October 2002
return of writ	by Wednesday 25 December 2002.

Divisional Returning Officer for Cunningham, Mrs Ann Cass said that this announcement would be a call to action for people living in Cunningham to enrol for the first time or to update their electoral details.

"If you're an Australian Citizen, aged 18 years or older and live in the Division of Cunningham, it is compulsory for you to enrol and vote in this election," she said.

"If you're enrolling for the first time or if you've changed address but haven't updated your details on the electoral roll, all you need to do is fill out an new enrolment form."

Enrolment forms are available from Post Offices, AEC offices or they can be printed from the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au.

The completed forms must be received by the AEC by 8pm on Monday, 23 September 2002, the close of rolls date for the Cunningham by-election.

Mrs Cass said that if anyone wanted to check their enrolment details they could ring the AEC on 13 23 26.
