Media Release 2001: Ryan By-election

As a result of the Hon John Moore's resignation from the House of Representatives, a by-election is to be held for the federal seat of Ryan.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has issued the writ appointing the following dates:

• Close of rolls: 8pm Friday 16 February 2001
• Close of nominations: 12 noon Thursday 22 February 2001
• Declaration of nominations: 12 noon Friday 23 February 2001
• Polling day: Saturday 17 March 2001
• Return of the writ: on or before Wednesday 20 May 2001

Anyone who resides in the Division of Ryan and is an Australian citizen 18 years and over, is reminded that enrolment and voting is compulsory.

• Australian Electoral Commission offices
• The AEC website, www.aec.gov.au/enrol
