Media Release 2001: Aston By-Election funding entitlements

The Australian Electoral Commission today announced payment of election funding entitlements following the Aston By-Election.
The entitlement to election funding is set out in Division 3, Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (CEA). Section 299 of the CEA requires that at least 95% of the entitlement to election funding be paid as soon as possible after the 20th day after polling day. As the writ for the Aston By-election was returned prior to the 20th day after polling, the full entitlement can be paid.
Political parties which endorse candidates and independent candidates receive election funding, provided the candidates receive at least 4% of the formal first preference vote. The current rate of funding entitlement is 179.026 cents per formal first preference vote.
Election funding entitlement for the Aston By-election totalling $125 368.33 is to be paid to:
