Media Release 2001: Aston By-Election funding entitlements

The Australian Electoral Commission today announced payment of election funding entitlements following the Aston By-Election.

The entitlement to election funding is set out in Division 3, Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (CEA). Section 299 of the CEA requires that at least 95% of the entitlement to election funding be paid as soon as possible after the 20^th day after polling day. As the writ for the Aston By-election was returned prior to the 20^th day after polling, the full entitlement can be paid.

Political parties which endorse candidates and independent candidates receive election funding, provided the candidates receive at least 4% of the formal first preference vote. The current rate of funding entitlement is 179.026 cents per formal first preference vote.

Election funding entitlement for the Aston By-election totalling $125 368.33 is to be paid to:
