Media Release 2001: Aston By-Election

As a result of the recent death of Peter Nugent the federal member for Aston a by-election is to be held.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives has issued the writ appointing the following dates:
| Close of Rolls | 8pm | Friday 8 June 2001 |
| Close of Nominations | 12 noon | Thursday 14 June 2001 |
| Declaration of Nominations | 12 noon | Friday 15 June 2001 |
| Polling Day | Saturday 14 July 2001 | |
| Return of Writ | On or before Sunday 9 September 2001 |
Anyone who resides in the Division of Aston and is an Australian citizen, 18 years and over, is reminded that enrolment and voting is compulsory. Persons 70 years and over are reminded that voting is compulsory for them in federal elections.
