AEC Website a hit

12 October 2001

Thousands of people across the globe are visiting the AEC without moving from their chairs.

The AEC is only a click away at www.aec.gov.au and is providing a great service for Australians wanting information about enrolment and voting, no matter where they are.

The site contains a range of election 2001 enrolment and voting forms and publications including the following:

  • election specific Frequently asked Questions for electors, candidates and parties
  • enrolment forms
  • electoral newsfiles
  • electoral backgrounders
  • election timetable
  • postal vote applications
  • nomination forms
  • overseas elector information
  • electorate search
  • election results (when available)

Australian Electoral Commissioner, Mr Andy Becker, said that the website was just one example of the AEC's strong commitment to providing all electors with easy access to electoral information.

"You can print off an enrolment form, search for your local polling place, even download electoral publications - all online," Mr Becker said.

Since it was launched at the 1996 election, the AEC website has proved to be a popular way for electors, candidates and parties to access electoral information at any time of the day or night.

"During the 1998 election period, more than 115 000 people accessed about 525 000 page views with the average user spending 17 minutes browsing the website," he said.

Anyone needing election specific information should access the website or phone the national enquiry line on 13 23 26.
