More than 840 000 electors have already voted because they will not be able to get to a polling place on Saturday.
9 November 2001
Australian Electoral Commissioner, Mr Andy Becker said that approximately 840 000 declaration votes have been provided by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to electors nation wide who have voted by post or at special AEC prepoll voting centres.
"And it's still not too late to cast a prepoll vote at your nearest prepoll voting centre today - Friday- if you will be away on Saturday," Mr Becker said.
Voting centre locations are available from the AEC web site at www.aec.gov.au or by phoning 13 23 26.
Prepoll and postal votes cannot be counted until after polling day.
