Media Release 1999: Candidates for the Holt By-election
14 October 1999
Nominations were announced at 12 noon today for the Holt By-election, to be held in conjunction with the Referendum on Saturday 6 November.
A total of five candidates nominated for the by-election. Their names appear on the attached sheet in ballot paper order.
"Voters in Holt are in the unique position of having to complete three ballot papers on Referendum day," said Divisional Returning Officer, Mr Don Campbell.
"They will receive a green ballot paper to vote for their new member of parliament, a buff coloured ballot paper to vote on the question on the republic and a mauve ballot paper to vote on the question of the preamble to the Constitution," he added.
Mr Campbell urged voters who will be away from home on polling day to vote before they go. Voters who are unable to visit an AEC office should apply for a postal vote as soon as possible. The AEC's pre-poll voting centre for Holt is located at Shop 1, 20a Langhorne Street, Dandenong.
If voters have any enquiries about the Holt By-election or the Referendum they can phone the AEC on 13 23 26.
