Media Release 1998: 1998 Federal Election Funding Payments Announced

Updated: 2 September 2010

27 November 1998

The Australian Electoral Commission today announced that it has finalised election funding payments following the 1998 federal election. Total election funding paid at this election was $33 822 496.27.

95% of the funding totalling $31 103 228.82 was paid on 28 October 1998. The remaining 5% (or $2 719 267.45) was paid today, Friday 27 November 1998.

Candidates and Senate groups become entitled to a payment of election funding if they obtain at least 4% of the formal first preference vote. The entitlements of candidates endorsed by a registered political party are paid to the party, while those for independent candidates are paid directly to the candidate.

The rate of election funding at this election was 162.210 cents per formal first preference vote for both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Election disclosure returns become available for public inspection at the Commission’s Head Offices in each capital city on Monday 22 March 1999.

Attached is a break-up of the entitlements of parties and candidates.
